A dental implant with a crown costs from €869 (1,700 KM) at TB Dent in Trebinje: a Neodent implant with a porcelain-fused-to-metal crown. With a zirconia crown it is €971, and with a Straumann implant €1,074 or €1,176. The price covers the implant, surgery under local anaesthetic, uncovering the implant, the abutment and the crown. A single implant means three trips to Trebinje, and those trips belong in your sums. Below is what the price includes, what costs extra and when the trip is worth it.
How much does a dental implant cost at TB Dent?
A dental implant at TB Dent costs €665 (1,300 KM) with Neodent and €869 (1,700 KM) with Straumann. The crown with its abutment is added on top: porcelain-fused-to-metal €205 (400 KM) or zirconia €307 (600 KM). A complete tooth therefore costs between €869 and €1,176.
You pay for the implant when it is placed and for the crown when it is fitted. We don't ask for a deposit before you travel. Prices are per implant and are set in convertible marks, which have a fixed exchange rate to the euro (€1 = 1.95583 KM). Why there are two implant prices and how the surgeon chooses the system is explained in Straumann vs Neodent.

What does the price include?
The implant price includes the surgery, local anaesthetic and uncovering the implant once it has healed. The crown price includes the abutment, the connector between implant and crown, and the crown itself. Check-ups are one month after the crown is fitted, then every six months.
What costs extra?
At TB Dent, the only extras are procedures not every patient needs, and the trip itself. Add these to the price in the table:
A bone graft is rarely needed in our practice. The surgeon sees whether you need one on your CBCT scan, before you book anything. What happens then, and what it costs, is explained in Dental implants with bone loss.
Will I get a temporary tooth?
For front teeth, yes, if the implant is firmly stable in the bone when it is placed. We then make a temporary crown straight away; it is ready within 24 hours and costs €87 (170 KM). If the implant is not stable enough at placement, this temporary crown isn't made.
How many trips to Trebinje does one implant take?
A single implant takes three trips to Trebinje and four appointments. That is the biggest drawback of a single implant abroad, and we would rather tell you before you book.
- First trip: the implant is placed. The procedure takes about 15 minutes, under local anaesthetic. You can fly two days later.
- Second trip, three to four months later: the implant is uncovered. That is how long it takes to fuse with the bone, and it cannot be sped up.
- Third trip, about 20 days later: a scan or impression, and a few days after that the crown is fitted. This trip therefore lasts a few days.
The transfer from Dubrovnik or Tivat Airport is free. We arrange accommodation in partner apartments at €50 a night, or Hotel Nar from €75.

What happens at each appointment, and whether it hurts, is in Dental implant procedure.
Is it worth travelling for one tooth?
That is a sum you can do yourself. Put our price next to the quote you have at home and add three return flights and the nights you need. If the difference left over is worth the trips to you, it pays off. If you are in the region anyway, on holiday on the coast near Dubrovnik or visiting family in Bosnia and Herzegovina, part of the travel cost is already being spent, and the sum looks different from three flights booked just for the treatment.
Can the implant go in straight after the tooth is taken out?
Usually, yes. At TB Dent we place the implant straight after the extraction when the tooth is fractured, a root canal treatment without infection has failed, or decay has made the tooth impossible to save. It can't be done straight away if the tooth was lost because of a large infection or a cyst. The bone then needs a few months to recover before the implant goes in.
Implant vs bridge: which costs less?
A bridge costs less than an implant at TB Dent: €128 to €230 (250 to 450 KM) per unit, so a three-unit bridge replacing one tooth costs €383 to €690. To hold the bridge, the two neighbouring teeth are filed down.
If the neighbouring teeth are healthy, an implant is the wiser choice than filing down two healthy teeth for a bridge. That is our dentist's view, and it is what we recommend. What applies to your teeth we discuss from your X-ray.
Does the NHS or my insurance pay for a dental implant?
Don't count on it, and ask before you travel. The NHS says implants are usually only available privately; in rare cases they are offered to patients who cannot wear dentures, for example after mouth cancer or an accident.
For a private insurer, we issue a medical report listing every procedure and price, together with a fiscal receipt. Whether your policy pays anything back for treatment abroad is worth checking with them first.
What do I get after the procedure?
On the day of the procedure you receive an implant passport from TB Dent, with the manufacturer, type and position of the implant. With it, any dentist can make or repair the crown on your implant, including at home. We give a written warranty of ten years on the implant and five years on the crown, valid with regular check-ups.
If something needs fixing, you come to Trebinje and are seen straight away; the trip is at your own cost. More on this in Dental implant passport and What if dental work abroad goes wrong?
Who places the implant?
Implants at TB Dent are placed by Dr Darijo Pandžić, a specialist in oral surgery, and Dr Nikola Krnojelac, an oral surgery resident. Our practice places 50 to 60 single implants a year.

You get an exact price before you buy flights. Send your CBCT scan on WhatsApp; all our doctors speak English. Travel, entry rules and our other prices are in Dental tourism in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This article is also available in German.
